Justin Thomas shares his annual 'goals' list, perfectly pokes fun at himself

The last thing Justin Thomas needed was a reminder of how poor his 2022-23 season was, at least by his lofty standards. He'd be the first to tell you it wasn't good enough, as evidenced by his failure to make the FedEx Cup Playoffs for the first time in his nine-year PGA Tour career.
Unfortunately JT was given a harsh reminder on Tuesday, when the two-time major champion revealed his annual "goals" list from the beginning of the 2022-23 campaign. Normally, Thomas' releases his list after the Tour Championship, and it's usually covered in green check marks. The sign of a solid year.
This year's version, however, featured just one green check on a list of eight goals he set out to accomplish, which may have factored into Thomas' decision to not post the screenshot until now:
"Well ... at least I got one check mark!" Thomas joked in his caption. It's better than zero, that's for sure. Of course, even that lone check was in doubt, as Thomas was not an automatic qualifier for the U.S. Ryder Cup and had to be selected as a captain's pick. It was a controversial choice at the time, but Thomas wound up being one of the lone bright spots on the American side, collecting 1.5 total points and winning his Sunday singles match.
As for the rest, those were admittedly big goals. When you aim high, you better be prepared to miss high. In the past, Thomas' goals were a bit more stat-oriented, as he wrote on Instagram. These were all accomplishment-based, which are a lot harder to achieve when you aren't playing your best. We'll see if Thomas aims high again in 2023-24, and we'll check back in a year to see how many green checks are on it (take the over).
